Valentine’s Day Match-Up and Visual Discrimination Activity
Matching and visual discrimination activities are often used to promote a child’s ability to recognize differences in the details of visual images.
Teaching visual discrimination skills is all about helping children pay attention to detail which will come into play when they start to recognize and learn the letters of their name, and then words for reading, writing, and communication.
Activities that require children to closely look at pictures to identify the similarities and differences will help them in the develop strong visual discrimination skills that they will use in recognizing letters and numbers.
This is a simple, fun, activity that helps your child work on their visual discrimination skills.
What You Need:
Print 2 of the Heart Picture (using color ink)
Scissors
Optional: Crayons or Markers if you print out in black and white
Optional: Kid-safe glue if making a collage
What to Do:
OPTION 1: Take one of the Pages and Cut out the 12 Hearts (you will have 12 separate squares) - Leave Other Page Uncut Match-Up each of the 12 Cut Out Hearts with their matching Hearts on the Other Page
OPTION 2: Cut out ALL of the Hearts from Both of the Pages Spread Out the 24 Hearts on a Table Seek, Find, Match-Up all of the Hearts
OPTION 3: Cut out ALL of the Hearts from Both Pages Turn All Pictures Upside-Down Flip Over ONE Heart Picture - then Guess Where It’s Match May Be If There Is No Match - Turn both Pieces Back Over and Continue On When You have a Match, Remove and set Aside
OPTION 4: Cut out ALL of the Hearts from Both of the Pages Glue onto a piece of construction paper, inside the area where you have drawn a giant heart outline
OPTION 5: Discuss each heart and all the things that make them different from each other
