Making Giant Bubbles for Long Lasting Sensory Playtime

Blowing bubbles, chasing bubbles, popping bubbles, reaching for bubbles, and even stomping on bubbles are great physical movement activities as well as wonderful fun sensory play.

Typical bubble solution tends to make bubbles that often pop as soon as you blow them. There is a make-at-home bubble recipe that gives you stronger bubbles. Bubbles you can push, chase around, and bounce (to a degree). These bubble will still pop and break of course, but will give you longer play time. If you use with larger bubble wands you can make giant bubbles as well.

Almost Unbreakable Bubble Recipe

What you need:

o   3 cups of water

o   1 cup liquid dishwashing detergent OR ½ cup glycerin

o   ½ cup of white corn syrup (dark corn syrup will change color of mixture but works just as well)

o   Container with lid to keep mixture in

o   Bubble wand (use different sizes for big to giant bubbles)

 What to do:

o   Stir the water, dish detergent (or glycerin) and corn syrup together

o   If you can let the mixture sit for several hours or even overnight it helps to create bigger stronger bubbles, but you can use right away as well

o   Blow some great bubbles or use a bubble wand

Notes:

o   Add more glycerin and/or corn syrup to help make bubble stronger (the dishwashing detergent affects the amount of syrup/glycerin you will need so you may need to experiment a little to get the recipe that works best and gives you the results you are looking for)

o   Using distilled water will help in making big bubbles

o   Using tonic water will make your bubbles glow a light blue under a black light

o   Corn syrups are sticky so you may want to blow your bubbles outside to avoid sticky residue all over your house

o   Keep your bubble mixture in a sealed container for continued fun on another day

Coloring Bubble Mixture

o   It is difficult to make colored bubbles but it is possible

o   Using food colors do not really have the effect you want and they also tend to weaken the bubbles

o   Use 3-cups water-based kid-safe dye in the place of the 3-cups plain water for better results, but take note to blow your bubbles outside as the coloring can stain whatever they land or pop on
